How to Promote your blog? Part-1

After creating your own blog with good content now you wish your blog to be read by everyone. You cannot just wait for people to come searching for your blog to read it. You have to promote your blog to get the visitors. There are several ways to promote your blog and I am listing as many ways as possible. One has to try all the possible ways to promote his/her blog. Before promoting your blog make sure that your blog has content which makes user to come back again. Its easy to get the visitors one time but you need to retain them and keep them coming again and again. Here I am posting series of posts on the topic "How to Promote your Blog?". Whatever I write here is from my experience, from my blogger friends experience, discussions on some forums, from articles of other bloggers(I admit) etc.

I start with some self tried ways in this post and in next posts I will cover the other standard ways to promote your blog.

1. Traget your own network:

Today we have so many social networking sites in which we have our profiles, All these sites allow you to make friends and make your own network. For example in Orkut you may have friends in hundreds or thousands. Just send a message to all your friends list and tell them about your blog.

You may also create your own community and make people to join it. Once your community grows you may use it for your blog's promotions.

You may also send an email to all your contact list giving link to your blog. 

2. Add your blog link on your profile titles:

This is another best way I found easy to promote your blog. I use gtalk to chat with my friends and profile you have a option to create a custom message which will appear with name to every one on your list. People add quotes like "Happy Independence day" etc. You can add here "see my latest blog about blogging" and give your link to it.  This method you can use for all  your online profiles like Orkut, facebook, Hi5, ibibo. Wherever you get a chance to add your blogs link just do it! I have experimented this and I found it very useful.

3. Send some interesting Jokes or Pics and link it to your blog:

Now a day I get some emails with funny pics or with jokes. If you click on those pics you will be taken to some website or blog. So just create some interesting email with funny pictures, jokes, news etc and send it your list(do not SPAM). This may get you good traffic too as people may intern forward your emai to their friends list and this goes on.................

For example you have sent an email to 100 people and in that 100 even 10 people forward it to their 100 lists then your blog might gets traffic of 1010!

4. Word of Mouth:

Though this method is not as powerful as other methods but you can just make a habit of telling everyone about your blog. Whenever you get a chance for to speak to new people just share few things about your blog and encourage people to visit your blog. As I have already mentioned its easy to get first time visitors but your target should be to make visitors visit again and again.

5. Be Consistent:

Few people post 10 posts at a time and off for months together. Do not do that, just be conistent and make yourself disciplined in posting. You can post 2 posts per week like that.
